Executive Committee Report - February 11, 2025

The executive committee has issued the following report for the February 11, 2025 Assembly Meeting:


  1. Notices to the Assembly

    1. President Thaqi submitted his first report to the Regents on 2/7. The remarks will be delivered at the February Regents Meeting on 2/20.

    2. Vice President Frederick held the first meeting of the University Council on 2/9.


  2. Communications Activities

    1. As a reminder, the March ACE deadline is February 19th so please submit materials to the communications request form before then.

  3. Programs and Events

    1. Please join us for the Candlelight Vigil in remembrance of the lives lost on February 13th at MSU, and in support of those who continue to heal. The Vigil will begin at 7:45PM this Thursday at the Diag and will include speakers such as VP of Student Life Martino Harmon..

    2. Go Blue Goes Green: Collections are happening RIGHT NOW for the entire month of February. Please bring any donations to the CSG office, and advertise to all your friends on campus. In collaboration with Panhel, collection boxes will be located at all sorority houses, select apartments, and the Union.

    3. The February event “Valentine’s Day Bash” is THIS WEEK, Friday February 14th in collaboration with CCI. The event which has garnered so much popularity in previous years is back and better with bears, flowers, and mental health resources. The sign up sheet to volunteer is linked HERE!

    4. The Women’s History Month Brunch planning is currently underway. The event will be Saturday, March 15 from 9:30-12pm in the Michigan Union. To nominate a women student leader to attend the conference please fill out THIS FORM by February 28th.

    5. Operation Graduation is collecting interest through the February ACE and we are hoping that the revival of the program will garner a lot of interest for spring graduates. Please share this information with graduating seniors if they are interested in the program! The form is linked HERE

    6. Hydration Stations are underway and are being organized in collaboration with FSL for two events this semester. They will be staffed by volunteers from sororities and fraternities for Winterfest and St. Patty’s Day.


  4. Policy Team

    1. The Policy Team is working on a resolution for grocery store transportation so please take a look at that. Additionally, they will be collaborating with the communications team to release a red flags video regarding housing and leases. They are still meeting with several relevant departments to improve laundry costs, Mcards, and transportation. They are also in the early stages of looking to do more government affairs and advocacy work through collaborations with other organizations.

    2. The DEAC speaker event InclusiviTEA with the theme “Steeping in Strength: Navigating Disabled Life” will be on February 25th from 4:30-6 in the Kuenzel Room of the Union. 

    3. SMPSEC will be handing out goodie bags on February 12th for Valentine's Day. They will be handing them out in the Shapiro Library from 1:30-3:30. The goodie bags will include a variety of items such as condoms, tissues, candy, affirmation cars which the team has designed, and other essentials. The team has been approved for the condom act which will give us access to more resources for the future! They are also doing research regarding the health vending machines and seeing if there is any possibility of making some of the resources free of charge to students.


  5. Meeting Headlines

    1. Mario began his weekly meetings to help onboard the new Program Manager on Friday 2/6

    2. Mario met with Faculty Senate Chair Modrak on 2/9 to share bi-weekly updates. They also spoke on institutional neutrality and a faculty “Teach In” event on the 60th anniversary of the first Teach In at the University of Michigan in 1965 (please attend – this Wednesday; info on Instagram)

    3. University Council Report

    4. Jake and Mario also met with MDining leadership to speak about the Maize and Blue Cupboard, student employee grievance reporting, SNAP eligibility in Blue Markets, and future collaborations on 2/7. 

    5. Mario and Jake also had their weekly meeting with Dean Jones and met with Parking & Transportation Services about grocery store transportation and Saferide proposals on 2/10.
