Finals Week Wellness
The Programming team is running a Finals Week Wellness event this Thursday, December 7th on both Central and North Campus. They will be distributing wellness materials, as well as Policy Advisor on Mental Health and Wellbeing Aditi Vijendra’s new wellbeing resource guide.
Operation Graduation Program
The Programming team is running our Operation Graduation distribution. Through this program, students have the opportunity to receive free graduation gowns, which will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Barnes and Noble is giving us a 15% discount, and we will be able to cover the costs for 60 Bachelors and 20 Masters gowns! Students had until last Thursday to pick up their gowns using vouchers, and the programming team is now working with the next list of people who applied to distribute the gowns that were not picked up.
Chief of Staff Juliette Quenioux and Chief Programming Officer Terra Lafreniere met with Greek Life leadership last week on the possibility of running a fundraiser for CSG’s scholarships. More updates to come on this!
Policy Team:
Vice President Bipasha Ray’s High-Risk Planning Student Sub-Committee is preparing a pitch to stakeholders in FSL for a meeting this week to push for further access of nightcaps and test strips in strategic areas to promote and normalize personal safety. They also put together a student survey to research further the opinions and needs of students on campus, which was distributed at Chill Out. Fill it out here!
Policy Advisor on DEIJ Nneka Obiekwu is in the planning stages for outreach toward student organizations concerning the University’s rollout of their new DEI 2.0 Plan. She is working on a presentation for this outreach and developing a list of relevant organizations to reach out to.
Policy Advisor on DEIJ Nneka Obiekwu has also connected with MESA to work with their Black History Month planning committee on programming for January. She is also working on putting together a social media highlight for Black student leaders on campus. More to come!
Policy Director Gwen Tatara is working with Beyond the Diag to refresh their off-campus housing guide. BTD is a UM program developed to provide off-campus resources to students. To support her research on this topic, she has rolled out a survey on off-campus housing experiences that we will be pushing in the December ACE. Fill it out here! She also filmed a fireside chat this weekend to talk about the process of finding and securing off-campus housing.
Policy Director Gwen Tatara, along with Bipasha Ray and intern Lidia Cappelletti, are waiting for Procurement to approve our agreements with the Princeton Review and UWorld, two partnerships that will allow UM students to receive discounted test prep materials and free consultations targeted at students pursuing graduate degrees. We will be releasing information on how students can take advantage of these partnerships on social media as soon as they are approved–keep an eye out!
SMPSEC is working with various organizations on campus, including WORTH, to see how CSG can support education about contraceptive use and accessibility. They have also been working with Michigan Medicine and the Post-Roe Taskforce on the possibility of a vending machine that includes wellness materials. This vending machine will be installed over Winter Break!
SMPSEC intern Ananya Patil has been meeting with SAPAC, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center at U-M, weekly, and we are excited about continuing to support their initiatives. The SMPSEC commission is also meeting with SAPAC’s Survivor Empowerment & Ally Support program this week!
