CSG Winter 2024 Elections

CSG Executive

  • President and Vice President (single ticket)

The CSG President is the chief executive of, and chief advocate for, the student body. The President appoints student representatives to University-wide committees and to positions within the CSG Executive Branch; reports on student matters to the UM Board of Regents; and serves as a check on the Legislative Branch, with the power to sign and veto Assembly Resolutions, among other duties. They are elected alongside a Vice President, who supports them in their work.

  • College of Literature, Science, & the Arts, fifteen (15) seats

  • College of Pharmacy, one (1) seat

  • Law School, one (1) seat

  • Rackham School of Graduate Studies, seven (7) seats

  • Ross School of Business, three (3) seats

  • School of Art & Design, one (1) seat

  • School of Dentistry, one (1) seat

  • School of Education, one (1) seat

  • School of Information, one (1) seat

  • School of Kinesiology, one (1) seat

  • School of Music, Theatre, & Dance, one (1) seat

  • School of Nursing, one (1) seat

  • School of Public Health, one (1) seat

  • School of Public Policy, one (1) seat

  • School of Social Work, one (1) seat

Note: Any student enrolled or actively working toward a degree in one of these units is eligible to run for an Assembly seat representing that unit.
As a Representative in the CSG Assembly, you are expected to act on behalf of the students in your school/college in bringing business and voting as a member of the legislative body. You are expected to attend full Assembly meetings each Tuesday at 7:30 PM as well as one of its legislative committee meetings each week. 

University of Michigan Police Department Oversight Committee

  • Campus-wide, one (1) seat 

The UMPD Oversight Committee is responsible for investigating grievances against UMPD officers and Act 330 officers employed by the University. This position is one of six voting members of the Committee. Please see https://hr.umich.edu/working-u-m/workplace-improvement/police-department-oversight-committee for more information.

Application Deadline / March 8, 2024
  • Preferred submission via email to electiondirector@umich.edu or via the Google Form version. Applications dropped off in the CSG Office may not be processed until the following day (24 hours).

Candidate Information Session / March 9 & March 11, 2024
  • March 9, 2024 4:00 PM

  • March 11, 2024 7:00 PM

  • Candidates are required to attend at least one of these two meetings. 

  • These meetings will be held on Zoom. The link can be found here.

Attend CSG Assembly Meeting (Required)
  • Candidates are required to attend at least one of these five meetings. CSG Assembly meetings will take place in the Wolverine Room of the Michigan Union (3rd floor).

  • Candidates for any position may attend. Further details will be communicated by the Elections Commission.

  • Sample ballots will be available here on March 19, 2024.

Last Day to Withdraw Candidacy / March 25, 2024 11:59 PM
  • Any candidate may withdraw from an election by submitting a written request to the Elections Director. Withdrawal prior to 8 days before the election will result in removal from the ballot. Withdrawal thereafter does not guarantee removal but will result in the candidate being ineligible to win the election from which they withdrew.

Campaign Donation & Expenditure Forms Due / March 26, 2024 11:59 PM
  • Campaign finance forms and appropriate supplemental documentation must be submitted before the start of voting. Further expenditures must not be made after the submission.

  • Candidates who do not spend any money on their campaign do not need to submit a form. 

  • Completed forms will be made publicly available through the CSG website by the Elections Director within 24 hours of the submission deadline. 

CSG Elections / March 27 - March 28, 2024
  • Elections for all vacant CSG seats, UMPD Oversight Committee and CSG Constitutional Amendments will take place from 3/27-3/28 at vote.umich.edu

  • The elections will take place from 12:00 am on March 27 through 10:00 pm on March 28.
